Villamartín is an inland urbanisation in Orihuela Costa, a few kilometres from the beaches, that was born around golf. Its original course opened in 1972 and went on to host the Mediterranean Open in 1994; the second course, Las Ramblas, is very close by. The Plaza and the golf homes

The heart of the urbanisation is Villamartín Plaza, or simply “the Plaza”: a square with shops, services, restaurants and terraces next to the golf course, where half the neighbourhood meets up. Outside it, Villamartín is car country; the residential streets are designed for arriving by vehicle, not on foot.

Around the course there are villas, townhouses and bungalows, often on complexes with a communal pool, and apartments in low-rise blocks. A large share of the owners come from northern Europe; some live here all year round and others come for the golf seasons. Many houses are let by the month or by the week.
