It depends on your policy and on the reason for the change. We cannot tell you what yours covers: check it or ask your insurer before taking anything for granted.
What usually matters is the cause:
- A burglary or attempted burglary with damage to the lock.
- Lost or stolen keys.
- A fault or normal wear and tear of the part.
Each policy treats these cases in its own way, and some have their own procedures or their own tradespeople. That is why it is worth calling your insurer first if you want them to pay for it.
What we do is give you an itemised invoice and, if you need it, a report with photos of the state the lock was in. With that you have the paperwork you may be asked for. We explain it in forced lock report.
