At an estate agency, keys come and go. There are homes whose owner lives abroad and left only one copy, inherited flats whose keys nobody can find, houses that have been shut for years and doors that, on the very day of the viewing, simply will not open. And when the deal is signed, the buyer or the tenant wants to receive the home with keys that only they hold.
What an estate agent usually needs
- To open a home for sale or to let when there are no keys or the one there is does not work.
- To change the cylinder before handing the home over to the new owner or tenant.
- To cut down the number of keys for each property so the agency’s key board stays manageable.
- To make a door that rubs, will not close or has a stiff lock presentable before showing it.
- To check a home that has been empty for a long time and see whether there has been any attempt to break in.
Services that suit your agency
For homes with no key we carry out the door opening, always trying not to break anything. Before opening, we check that whoever is asking has the right to enter. If you are acting on the owner’s behalf, we explain how this is shown when you call.
For the handover, lock cylinder replacement is what gives the buyer most peace of mind: new keys that nobody else has. It can be done on the day of signing or just before handover.
With keyed-alike cylinders, the front door, the storeroom and the terrace door open with a single key. For the agency that means fewer keys per property and less confusion at viewings.
If the door rubs, has dropped or the bolt will not go in, door repair and adjustment gets it working without replacing it. A door that closes properly helps sell a home too.
How we organise the work
- Send us the address, photos of the door and the lock and the time we can come on WhatsApp.
- We give you a fixed quote before we start. If the job changes on site, we tell you and do not carry on without your agreement.
- The invoice goes in the name of the agency or the owner, depending on who is paying.
- Payment can be by card, Bizum or cash.
- We work 24 hours a day, every day, and if it is not urgent we find a time that fits around your viewings.
If you are preparing a handover, the page on moving or buying a home covers what is worth checking when receiving a home, in case you want to pass it on to your client.
Tips for managing keys
- Label keys with a code, never with the property’s address.
- When a tenant leaves and the owner gets the property back, change the cylinder before showing it to anyone else.
- If a home has been shut for a long time, ask for a check before the first viewing so the lock does not fail in front of the client.
