The first thing is not to touch the lock more than necessary, to take photos of the marks and to report it to the police.
Then:
- Check whether the door opens and closes normally. If the key will not go in or turns oddly, do not force it.
- Let your insurer know, and they will tell you what they need.
- Have the lock checked. A failed attempt can leave the cylinder damaged even if it looks intact from outside.
We check the lock, tell you whether it is still secure and, if you need it, give you a written account with photos of how someone tried to force it. That report can go with the police report and the insurance claim.
If the cylinder has been damaged or was one of the easy ones, it is a good time to replace it with a security cylinder and an escutcheon. We explain it in forced lock report.
