ABUS lock cylinders and padlocks in Torrevieja

ABUS is a German security brand that many people know for its padlocks, although it also makes lock cylinders, deadbolts and other products to protect doors and windows. In Torrevieja we mainly come across it in two places: in the cylinder of some front doors and in the padlocks on storerooms, gates and shop shutters.

What we usually do with ABUS

• Replace a worn ABUS cylinder, or one whose keys have been lost, with another of the same size. Replacing the lock cylinder does not mean touching the lock itself.
• Move from a basic cylinder to a security cylinder, from the same brand or another, depending on what your door needs.
• Open a storeroom or a gate when the padlock has seized or the key has gone missing. We do this as part of opening garages and storerooms.

Salt air and padlocks

A padlock hanging outdoors, on a gate near the sea, gets salty damp, sand and sun all year round. Over time the shackle seizes and the key goes in but will not turn. If this happens to you, do not force it with pliers: you will snap the key and make the problem worse. A dry lubricant applied every so often and a cover or cap over the keyhole make it last much longer.
