We find the INCECA brand on locks on front doors and also on metal doors, such as those on storerooms, meter rooms or pedestrian doors into garages. Each type of door needs a different lock, so the first thing is to see where yours is fitted.
Wooden door or metal door
On a wooden door the lock is mortised into the edge and is relatively easy to adjust. On a metal door, however, the lock sits inside a recess in the profile, with very specific dimensions. If it has to be replaced, the new one must match those dimensions, or the metal would have to be cut, which we prefer to avoid.
What we usually do with INCECA
- Replace the cylinder when the keys have been lost or the cylinder is worn. It is the quickest option and does not touch the lock.
- Repair the mechanism if the latch sticks or the handle does not spring back. Very often it is dirt or rust.
- Replace the lock with one that fits the recess when the original cannot be repaired. We do this as part of our lock replacement service.
- Open storerooms or communal rooms when the key is missing, as part of opening garages and storerooms.
The enemy of metal doors
On metal doors in basements and communal areas on the coast, damp and salt air make the lock rust from the inside. A door that is hard to open today can be stuck tomorrow. For communities, the most sensible thing is to include them in regular lock maintenance.
