AZBE is a brand you often see on mortice locks, the ones set into the edge of the door, on both wooden doors and some metal ones. Many flat doors in Torrevieja have had this type of lock since the building went up.
What we usually do with AZBE
- Replace the cylinder. If the keys have been lost or the cylinder is stiff, a lock cylinder replacement is all it takes. The lock stays where it is.
- Repair the lock. If the latch stays in, the bolt does not come all the way out or the handle is loose, it can sometimes be fixed by cleaning, adjusting or fitting a new spring.
- Replace it with a compatible one. When the mechanism is badly worn, we do a lock replacement with one of the same size, so there is no need to enlarge the recess or drill new holes.
The measurements that matter
For one mortice lock to fit in another’s recess, three things need checking: the backset (from the faceplate to the centre of the cylinder), the height and width of the faceplate, and the distance between the handle and the cylinder. That is why, before ordering anything, we ask you for a photo of the faceplate and, if you can, another with a tape measure next to it.
If the door opens onto the street
A basic mortice lock with a standard cylinder can be improved. With a security cylinder and a protective escutcheon the door gains a great deal, and if you want to go further there is our security upgrade.
We give you a fixed quote before we start, with what we are going to fit, and you pay by card, Bizum or cash.
