DORCAS is a brand we mostly come across on electric strikes, the part in the frame that releases the latch when a neighbour buzzes the entrance open from their flat. It is common on the entrances of apartment blocks and urbanisations along the coast.
What we do not do
So you know from the start: we do not install or repair door entry releases, electric strikes, video entry systems or access control. If the fault is on the electrical side, we will tell you when we see the photo so that the right company can look at it.
What we do on those doors
A building entrance door has more parts than the strike, and very often the problem lies in them:
- The lock. If the latch does not come out, sticks or does not retract with the key, we carry out a lock repair or replace it with a compatible one.
- The cylinder. If community keys have been lost or the cylinder is worn, we replace it. If you want a single key for the entrance, the pool and the garage, there is master keying.
- The door closer. If the door does not close fully, the latch does not reach the strike and it looks as if the door release has failed. Adjusting or replacing the door closer usually sorts it out; we cover this under door closer installation.
- The door. A sagging leaf rubs against the strike and stops it from releasing the latch. The hinges and the faceplate are adjusted.
How to tell where the fault is
If the strike buzzes when someone presses the button from their flat but the door does not open, it is often a mechanical problem of pressure or adjustment. If it makes no sound at all, it is usually electrical. Record a short video and send it to us on WhatsApp.
