VIRO is an Italian brand known above all for its padlocks and deadbolts, although it also makes cylinders and other fastenings. In Torrevieja we often see it on the metal roller shutters of shops, on storerooms and on garden gates.
What we usually do with VIRO
- Open the lock when the padlock will not turn or the key has been lost. If it is a shop shutter, we carry out shutter and roller shutter opening, taking care not to damage the slats. Before opening, we check that you have the right to enter.
- Replace the padlock or the deadbolt with an identical or stronger one.
- Improve the locking on the shop. Sometimes the padlock is fine, but the point it hooks onto is weak or too easy to reach. We suggest alternatives from our roller shutter door locks, such as a central lock or a second locking point.
Padlocks on the coast
A padlock out in the open in Torrevieja gets salt, sand and sun all year round. The shackle seizes and the cylinder fills with dirt. A few simple steps help:
- Turn the padlock so the keyhole faces downwards and water cannot get in.
- Lubricate it with a dry product every so often.
- Do not hit it if it is stiff: you can bend the shackle and make it useless.
When to swap the padlock for something else
On a metal roller shutter, a padlock at floor level is convenient, but it is within reach of bolt cutters. If your shop has had an attempted break-in, it is worth moving to a lock built into the shutter or adding a second locking point. If the shutter is also out of line or rubbing, we carry out roller shutter door repair on manual shutters.
Send us a photo of the padlock and how it is fitted. We give you a fixed quote before we start, with an invoice in your business’s name if you need one.
