If the lock or cylinder on your door has TOVER stamped on it, you already have a useful piece of information. But to replace or repair anything, what really matters is the measurements and the type of lock. A part from the right brand in the wrong size is no good.
Measuring the cylinder
The most common mistake when replacing a cylinder is buying it by eye. A cylinder is measured from the centre, where the cam sits, out to each end. If it is too long, it sticks out and can be snapped from outside; if it is too short, the key does not go in properly or the cam rubs. So you do not get it wrong, there is the lock cylinder size calculator.
If you are not confident with a tape measure, take a photo of the edge of the door with the cylinder visible and another of the cylinder from outside, and send them to us on WhatsApp.
What we usually do with TOVER
- Replace the cylinder with one of the same size, of equal or higher security, when keys are lost or the cylinder wears out.
- Repair the lock when the latch, the bolt or the handle fails. It is the classic lock repair: clean, adjust and replace the faulty part.
- Replace it with a compatible one when it cannot be fixed, making sure it fits the same recess without touching the joinery.
Before you call us, try this
If the key suddenly goes stiff, check whether the door is rubbing. Push the leaf towards the frame while you turn the key. If it turns easily like that, the problem is the door and not the lock, and what it needs is an adjustment. If nothing changes, it is the cylinder or the lock. Either way, do not force the key.
