IFAM padlocks and deadbolts in Torrevieja

IFAM is a locksmithing brand found in hardware shops and locksmiths all over Spain. It is known above all for its padlocks, although it also makes deadbolts, locks and cylinders. In Torrevieja we often find it on storerooms, garden gates and the metal roller shutters of shops.

What we usually do with IFAM

• Open a storeroom or a gate when the padlock has seized or the key has been lost. This comes under opening garages and storerooms. Before opening, we check that you have the right to enter.
• Replace the padlock or the deadbolt with an identical or stronger one, depending on what it is protecting.
• Improve the locking on a shop. A padlock at floor level on a metal roller shutter is a weak point if a tool can reach it. We suggest alternatives from our roller shutter door locks, such as a central or side lock.

How to choose an outdoor padlock

Not all padlocks are the same. For a storeroom or a gate, look at:

• The thickness of the shackle: the thicker it is, the harder it is to cut.
• How exposed the shackle is, so that bolt cutters cannot get in.
• The cylinder: a padlock with a good cylinder holds out far longer than one with a simple key.
• Resistance to rust. Near the sea, a cheap padlock seizes within a few months.

If the padlock hangs from a weak hasp or staple, it does not matter much how good it is. Often it is better to replace that whole set-up with a well-anchored security deadbolt.
