We find the ARCU name stamped on locks and deadbolts on front doors, patio doors and storeroom doors. If that is what you have, the first thing is to work out what type of lock it is, because that decides how it gets fixed.
Surface-mounted or mortice
- Surface-mounted lock: screwed onto the inside face of the door, in plain sight. Common on older doors, patio doors and storerooms.
- Mortice lock: set inside the edge of the door, so all you see is the metal faceplate.
With one photo of the edge of the door and another of the inside face, we can tell you which one it is and what the options are.
What we usually do with ARCU
- If the lock works but the keys have been lost or the cylinder is worn, we replace just the cylinder.
- If the mechanism is broken, the latch will not come out or the key does not draw the bolt back, we carry out a lock repair when it is worth it.
- If the lock is beyond repair, we do a lock replacement with a compatible one that uses the same recess and holes in the door.
When it pays to go a step further
An old surface-mounted lock may not be very strong. If the door opens onto the street, it is worth thinking about an extra deadbolt or a security upgrade with a security cylinder and escutcheon. You do not need to change the door to feel the difference.
How we arrange it
You send us the photos on WhatsApp, we give you a fixed quote before we start and, if we find something different once it is taken apart, we let you know before carrying on. You pay by card, Bizum or cash.
