MAUER is a locksmithing brand that makes cylinders, locks and other fastenings. Its cylinders are fitted on front doors, both wooden and security doors.
What we usually do with MAUER
- Replace the cylinder when the keys have been lost or stolen, or the cylinder has been damaged.
- Step up a level with one of our security cylinders if the current one is basic.
- Protect the cylinder with an escutcheon. It is the part of the door that gets attacked most, and the one that responds best to reinforcement.
Why the escutcheon matters so much
The quickest way to open a door with a basic cylinder is not to pick it but to snap it: the part that sticks out is gripped and broken off. A protective escutcheon covers the cylinder on the outside, leaves only the keyhole visible and is bolted on from the inside. With escutcheon installation the door gains a great deal without changing the lock.
For the escutcheon to work, the cylinder has to be exactly the right size. If it is too long, it sticks out and the escutcheon does not cover it properly. That is why we measure before ordering anything.
Check your door
Look at the cylinder from the landing. If it sticks out more than a few millimetres beyond the escutcheon or the handle, it is a weak point. If you want to know how your door stands overall, take the door security test; it gives you an idea of what to improve first.
Send us a photo of the cylinder from the outside and of the edge of the door. We give you a fixed quote before we start, and you pay by card, Bizum or cash.
